Sponsorship - using Email
Email can be a very effective way of raising sponsorship money and requires very
little time.
- Send an email to 30 friends letting them know about the swim
(swim)
- Collect sponsorship.
Suggested text below. Feel free to cut and paste and adjust as appropriate.
We don't suggest you blanket email people, just email close friends and colleagues.
The people you contact just have to hit 'reply' and put an X in one of the boxes
to sponsor you. This makes it very simple for them to sponsor you.
Sending a separate email to each person starting 'Dear John' (etc) is very effective
compared to one email sent to 'Dear All'. In the latter case many think 'someone
else will sponsor him/her'. If you are sending an email to 30-40 people individually,
that's about 30 mins work.
Dear Fred
On [put your date here] 50 of us are swimming (collectively!) a distance equivalent
to the English Channel, 35 kms, in the local public pool in Old Trafford as part
of World Swim Against Malaria.
World Swim Against Malaria is an attempt to have 1 million people, from all across
the world, all swimming on the same day and raising a very large amount of money
for the fight against malaria.
1.5 million people die of malaria each year. 70% of the deaths are children under
5. That's equivalent to one child dying of malaria every 30 seconds or put another
way, 7 jumbo jets full of children disappearing due to malaria every day.
A simple bednet (mosquito net) is the most effective way of stopping people contracting
malaria. Each bednet costs US$5.
100% of the sponsorship money received through people swimming will go to buy bednets.
Nothing comes off the top.
More information can be found at: http://www.WorldSwimAgainstMalaria.com
Each swim has a red dot on the appropriate map showing where it is taking place
and who is involved. The particular swim I am involved in can be found at
www.WorldSwimAgainstMalaria.com/[put your quick link here]. You can sponsor me online and leave me a message!
Please would you sponsor me for 1, 2, 5, 10 etc ?
I'd be very grateful.
Best wishes
Emma
