Aberdeen has important connection with malaria. In the late 19th century, Sir Patrick Manson - a graduate of Aberdeen University - was instrumental in demonstrating malaria transmission by mosquitoes. Malaria and mosquito research continue to this day in the University who are proud to offer their support to this event.
Aberdeen is also the European oil capital sending people all over the tropics for business purposes. Many hundreds of antimalarial tablets are consumed by Aberdonians each year, a luxury usually not affordable to the people living in the areas that they visit.
